Site Assessment Unit

The Site Assessment UnitĀ (SAU) serves, protects, and promotes health and equity through community engagement, education, and evaluation with those affected by contaminated sites in California.

As a section of the Environmental Health Investigations Branch (EHIB), SAUĀ works under aĀ cooperative agreementĀ between the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).Ā 

Our Key Activities

  • We assist communities and public agencies in addressing health and exposure concerns related to hazardous waste sites (for example Superfund sites) and releases of hazardous materials
  • All work is conducted in collaboration with the affected community
  • Our work includes exposure assessment, toxicology, community engagement, and education
